FAQs
What is Purring Lotus?
Purring Lotus is a small tea business founded in 2025 in Hong Kong. We source teas from China’s celebrated tea regions, working directly with the people who grow and craft it. For us, tea is not just a drink, but a simple ritual and a way to practice slow living.
Why do you offer one tea per season?
The world of Chinese tea can be overwhelming, that's why we created Purring Lotus to make it simpler, offering one carefully curated tea each season so the only thing you choose is your moment of calm.
What teas do you offer?
We choose teas that are perfect to be enjoyed for the season, guided in part by traditional Chinese ideas of balance and rhythm. Some teas are meant to be enjoyed young, others to be rested and returned to. Over time, we’ll also begin to offer additional teas for quiet exploration, alongside our seasonal selection.
Do you have your own tea farm?
We don’t own a tea farm. Instead, we work closely with tea growers and producers who have spent generations cultivating their craft. By doing so, we ensure that every tea we offer reflects the land it comes from and the craft of the people who make it.
How should I brew the tea?
We include brewing instructions with each tea. There are two main ways of brewing our teas: Chinese and Western brewing, and we encourage you to try both, neither is more correct than the other.
Chinese (Gong Fu) brewing uses a higher leaf-to-water ratio and shorter infusions, allowing the tea to open gradually over multiple steeps and revealing different layers of flavour over time.
Western brewing uses less leaf and a longer infusion, resulting in a single, fuller cup that’s easy to prepare and well suited to everyday moments.
